Two weeks down - two to go in the second national lockdown - find out more about the number of Covid cases in Hitchin and north Herts with the government's interactive map.

The good news is that many parts of Hitchin have seen the number of positive Covid cases fall.

The news comes hot on the heels of the announcement that a vaccine has been found and will be rolled out shortly.

However, there is still work to be done in our area and we shouldn't be complacent.

The map, which is updated daily, uses official data to show the extent of coronavirus exposure in every area of the country within the past seven days during the current Covid crisis.

It shows:

* the number of cases in the past seven days

  • the rate of infection per 100,000 people in the population
  • how the area compares to the rest of England

Each area, known as a 'Middle Super Output Area', has an average population of 7,200.

The majority of Hitchin is currently highlighted in green which illustrates 51 to 100 cases per 100,000 people - a drop from 101 to 200 cases last week.
