Stevenage denied victory by late Morecambe equaliser

Stevenage narrowly failed to pick up three points on the road after a late Morecambe equaliser denied them a much sought-after victory at the weekend.

Morecambe avoided a home defeat against Boro after Jordan Slew's late leveller in a 1-1 draw at the Mazuma Stadium.

Battling Boro looked set to take full points on the Fylde Coast after a first-half Aramide Oteh spot-kick, but the north Herts side's hopes of only a second league win of a disappointing campaign were dashed by Slew 10 minutes from time.

Alex Revell's side went ahead in the 28th minute when Shrimps defender Kelvin Mellor brought down Oteh with a poor challenge in the area.

Showing character, Oteh then stepped up to fire his penalty underneath Shrimps keeper Jake Turner, who guessed the right way but couldn't keep the ball out of the net.

Stevenage nearly extended their lead after the break, but Danny Newton's poor touch when well placed in the box saw his chance go begging.

From there, the Shrimpers grabbed deserved their leveller when Slew got on the end of Freddie Price's cross, to head past Chelsea loanee Jamie Cumming, to make the score 1-1.
