We all know Hitchin town centre has a raft of wonderful eateries (not to mention independent shops) at value-for-money prices - but which ones do diners think are the best for food, drink, service and overall quality of experience?

The last time Nub News visited we had their smoked salmon with roasted onion jam, and can't recommend it highly-enough. With a weekly burger-pop up by the brilliant Cawsburger - including their succulent Peanut Butter Jelly burger rocking Hitchin between Thursdays and Saturdays - what's not to like? And don't forget to have your meal outside on a sunny day and watch the world go by over a superb coffee. .............. 3) Rose Buds A great British traditional cafe in the heart of Hitchin with staff welcoming and friendly. The family run vintage cafe and tearoom serving freshly cooked breakfast, lunch and homemade cakes is well worth a visit to the Arcade off Market Place. ............... 2) Chilli B's Chilli B on Bucklersbury offers a unique menu with imaginative food, freshly prepared just for you. No pre-packaging allowed either. No wonder satisfied punters on Trip Advisor highlighted their 'outstanding food and service' and 'fresh and fantastic breakfast'. .............. 1) Taste Buds: The popular Carlton and Charlotte's ever-brilliant cafe on Bancroft has earned the crown of Hitchin's best with Tripadvisor crowning them as our town's top spot. It's not just the beautiful setting with timbered beams and a cute outdoor area to use on a sunny day, it's the quality of their food.
