Hitchin Town 5-0 Harpenden: Mark Burke's Canaries fly high as fans return to Top Field boosted by Rizzle Kicks star

By Layth Yousif 10th Sep 2020

Mark Burke's Hitchin Town made it seven wins in a row this summer with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Harpenden Town on Thursday evening - with a star from rap duo Rizzle Kicks shining.

Harley Alexander-Sule expertly marshalled the Canaries backline earning new fans to go with their millions of music followers.

Callum Stead, slammed home from close range barely 120 seconds into the return of football at Top Field, to give loyal fans something to cheer about after 185 long days without their Canaries fix.

Following a spell of possession Hitchin soon doubled the lead through Josh Coldicott-Stevens's excellent strike on 20 minutes to make it 2-0.

In truth, his low shot to steer home the Canaries second goal was nothing more than the hosts deserved.

Burke's side were dominant throughout as they moved towards their eagerly-awaited clash with National League side Barnet at the weekend, with the victory all but sealed moments before the interval when Steve Cawley slammed the ball past busy Harps' keeper Mackenzie Taylor to make it 3-0.

The scoreline became 4-0 ten minutes into the second half when substitute Marcus Goldbourne – who replaced Cawley during the interval - curled the Canaries fourth in the 55th minute with a well-placed drive.

Ziddane Gourgel Sequeia made it 5-0 with seconds remaining to put the seal on a good evening for the north Herts side in front of 200 fans.
