As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues to shock and appall, a Hitchin man has displayed a novel way to underline his support for the stricken country.

Russia's invasion and bombing campaign has sparked outrage, causing death, destruction, and misery to millions.

Offers of support for the Ukrainian people have been shown by many people in our area and further afield.

Not least by Hitchin Nub News reader Mike Wilkinson, who has been proudly flying the Ukraine flag from his garden shed that he calls his 'man cave'.

Big-hearted Mike responded to our Nub News FB post asking if anyone was flying the Ukraine flag in our area.

Mike told us: "I am flying it to remind people that there is a very bad situation in the Ukraine, because in time people will ignore the situation."

He added: "People's lives have been turned upside down in a matter of weeks by the actions of Vladimir Putin

"I have made many contacts in business in Poland and have offered to help with accommodation for people from the affected area.

"It should be remembered that the people that will be coming will need massive help as they will have seen thing that no women and children should have seen."
