Wanted: Early Anglo Saxons for battles, can accommodate Normans and Vikings at a push.

Before you wonder, no, Hitchin Nub News hasn't just unearthed a dark ages/medieval job advertisement on a parchment.

We want to introduce North Herts re-enactment group Swords of Penda.

The group are based at Offley Hoo Farm near Hitchin and are on the lookout for early Anglo Saxons, sorry, new members.

Chris Poore, group leader at the Swords of Penda told Nub News: "We are a dark ages group that concentrates on the early Anglo Saxon period 450 Ad – 750 AD although we do also stretch out to the Viking age and the even the Normans on occasion.

"Our group is newly formed and recruiting new members now. We train twice monthly at Offley Hoo Farm near Hitchin."

They're a friendly, welcoming bunch, well, when they're not fighting at any rate. So, if there are any Nub News readers who would like to have a go at being a warrior in the shield wall, an archer or maybe just learn some old crafts and skills or try out period cooking then why not drop them a line at www.swordsofpenda.com or email [email protected].

See Hitchin Nub News soon for an in-depth feature on the group
