Stevenage might have broken their seven-match duck without scoring but a Jevani Brown treble helped Colchester United to a 3-1 victory over Boro at the JobServe Community Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The U's went ahead in the 11th minute when 26-year-old former Arlesey Town forward Brown slotted him stabbed home from Callum Harriott's cross.

Alex Revell's side refused to buckle and were level four minutes later through Marcus Dinanga, who followed up to score past keeper Dean Gerken - who had saved his spot-kick - given after Tommy Smith fouled Arthur Read in the box.

Harriott's shot struck the woodwork before the half hour while Kwame Poku's deflected effort hit the post.

Colchester made it 2-1 on 57 minutes, when Brown fired past Chelsea loanee Jamie Cumming in the Boro goal, for his second of the game, following Harriott's defence-splitting pass

Brown sealed his hat-trick on 81 minutes, nodding home from former Arsenal defender Cohen Bramall's cross.

Boro remain in 21st place in League Two, having scored a single goal in eight matches.

Revell's side, who are far better than the table suggests will be pleased of a respite from league football when they host Condord Rangers in the first round of the FA Cup at the weekend.
