Lister Abseil raises £43,000 for Hertfordshire hospitals

The annual Lister Abseil took place at the end of March with 101 people abseiling down the 11-storey Stevenage tower block and raising £43,000 for East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals' Charity.
There were 35 members of staff from the hospital who took part and included teams from both the adult and children's emergency departments as well as former patients and members of the local community who wanted to thank the hospital for their care.
Steve Simper, who is registered blind and a former NHS senior manager, took part. Steve said: "It was very exhilarating. I got down much quicker than I thought I was going to. The hardest bit is getting your legs over the edge at the beginning but once you've got the tension of the ropes holding you up, it was absolutely brilliant."
Eloise Huddleston, director of the charity which supports Lister Hospital as well as Hertford County Hospital, Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and the New QEII Hospital, said: "Thank you so much to Steve and all our brave abseilers and everyone who supported them. It was such a fabulous day. We had great weather, and we heard some incredible stories about why people wanted to take part to thank various departments for their care.
"The funds we have raised will help us support patients, families and staff at hospitals by providing the latest equipment, funding advanced training for our staff and making improvements to indoor and outdoor spaces. These things make such a difference to our patients. Thank you again and a big thank you to Dolomite Training for making sure everyone had a safe, secure and fun day. We can't wait for next year!"
