Liz Meineck's Travel Diary: The Wonder of Solo Travelling
Liz Meineck's Travel Diary: The Wonder of Solo Travelling

I wrote about the wonders of solo travel recently and since then I've had a few questions from people who'd like to dip their toe in the water but are still unsure if it's for them, writes Liz Meineck.

The first thing I always say if I get questions like that is – you'll never know unless you try!

The worst thing that could happen is that you've spent a few quid and a week or so on a trip you wouldn't necessarily want to do again. But what's the best thing that could happen? It could blow your mind and change your life, that's what.

I've done many solo trips and in many ways I prefer the freedom that comes with that type of travel than the constant compromising you have to do when going away with loved ones (but don't tell my loved ones that!!)

It's definitely increasing in popularity and you are pretty much guaranteed to meet other solo travellers (not necessarily singletons, just other like minded people that want a bit of 'me time') whilst exploring our beautiful planet.

Backpacking and staying in hostels is as popular as ever, along with group tours that bring strangers with a common interest together and ensure they make life long friends.

Sharing a unique and special moment, like a perfect starry sky in the middle of the desert, or coming face to face with incredible wildlife in a remote jungle is a bonding experience like no other!

With our lives becoming ever busier and more stressful, a solo beach break could be the thing that tempts you to take the plunge.

A good friend of mine (who I of course met on a solo trip to China) writes a solo travel blog called The Flashpacker and I thought I'd share this one about a solo trip to Mauritius Solo Travel: The Ultimate Guide.

If you'd like to give it a go but have questions about safety, affordability, destinations or any other aspects of solo travel, I would highly recommend signing up to this informative and interesting website.
