Local trans woman Katie Wilson has begun exploring a gentle wellbeing idea after repeatedly seeing tragic railway incidents reported in the news. Each time one of these stories appears, it carries a heavy emotional weight, and Katie felt she wanted to offer something small and kind to the community — even if it never becomes anything official.

Her idea is simple: a quiet, optional wellbeing message that could be shared at Stevenage Station and at stations across North Hertfordshire. Katie hopes it might offer a moment of compassion for anyone who feels emotionally exhausted or at the end of their strength, whether they are staff, passengers, or members of the wider community. Stations already display Samaritans posters and other support information, and Katie is clear that her idea is not intended to replace any of that. Instead, it is a gentle addition from the community — a small reminder that kindness, awareness and human connection still matter.

Katie has begun designing a small set of calm, supportive posters that could sit quietly in staff areas or community spaces. The messages are simple and non‑clinical, encouraging small conversations, emotional awareness, and reaching out when things feel heavy. She emphasises that her idea is not about crisis intervention or responding to incidents, but about offering a soft moment of care for anyone carrying emotional strain.

To explore the idea properly, Katie has reached out to organisations connected to wellbeing across the rail network, including GTR (Great Northern), the Stevenage Station Manager, the Samaritans Rail Programme, and British Transport Police's Community Engagement Team. She knows her idea may not go anywhere, but she felt it was still worth reaching out — because even small acts of kindness can matter.

"When you read these tragic stories week after week, you start to think about the people behind the headlines — the staff, the passengers, the families," Katie says. "I just wanted to do something kind that might make a difficult day feel a little lighter."

Katie hopes her gentle message, and the posters she is creating, might one day find a place at Stevenage Station or North Herts stations, even in a small way. She believes that kindness and emotional awareness are part of what makes a community stronger.
