Police are appealing for information after a boy was bitten on the face by a dog at a café in Hitchin town centre.

The incident happened at Caffè Nero in Hitchin High Street at around 10am on Monday, August 31.

North Herts Police said the boy had asked to stroke a large brown dog which was inside the café at the time.

The dog then reportedly jumped up at the boy and bit him on the face.

Officers have released an image of a man they believe was in the café at the time of the incident.

Police said the man may have information which could assist their investigation and are appealing for help to identify and trace him.
