Hitchin Nub News nostalgia feature Rewind - featuring black and white pictures of Hitchin outdoor pool from 1950s and 1960s

As the temperatures start to rise as spring kicks in, we're featuring evocative black and white photographs of Hitchin's outdoor pool.

As you can see from our pictures taken this week, the open air pool at Hitchin Swimming Centre on Fishponds Road is gearing up to re-open.

The heated outdoor pool is an impressive 50m long, surrounded by a terrace that can be used for sunbathing on sunny days, complete with palm-style trees to make you feel you're somewhere exotic, and flanked on one side by a handsome redbrick pavilion building that was built in 1938.

It's been a popular site in our town over the decades. And as you can see from the black and white snaps taken in 1958 and 1960 respectively, sun seekers have flooded to the pool for a spot of R&R.

With the weather hopefully warming up very soon, the pool is set to re-open in May.

We can't wait!

We'd love to hear your memories of spending leisurely, summer days at the outdoor pool.
