Sainsbury's Local supermarket coming to Hitchin: Find out more

Plans have been approved for a Sainsbury's Local at a Hitchin pub

As Hitchin Nub News has been reporting, a planning application to build a supermarket next to a pub near Hitchin railway station has been rubber-stamped.

Greene King's aims to showcase a Sainsbury's Local at the back of The Anchor in Cambridge Road were given the go-ahead by North Herts Council last week..

Nub News understands The Planning Control Committee debated the controversial plans for nearly two hours, prior to 10 decisive votes cast in favour of the project.

"The principle of development in this location is considered acceptable," the council stated in their report after the vote.

Green King also intends to change the The Anchor pub - by reconfiguring the garden and demolishing buildings in favour of a garden pergola providing cover for outdoor seating as well as four timber huts for outdoor dining.
