Meeting in Mark's Hitchin office—accompanied by two visiting poodles—HNN had the privilege of speaking with a man who has helped shape some of the town's best-known locations.

While most of Mark's work focuses on residential projects, he has also been involved in commercial, retail, and hospitality spaces, including well-loved pubs such as Redcoats, the Kite, and the Fox at Willian.

Originally from Australia, Mark moved to Hitchin nearly 25 years ago.

Since then, he and his four-person team have built their portfolio primarily through word of mouth.

Now, with the launch of a new website, their services can reach a wider audience across Hertfordshire.

Mark explains that his company offers clients "the whole process," from an initial ballpark estimate and a free in-person consultation to the drawing, design, and planning and building stages. His "one-stop shop" also connects clients with builders and manages project administration whilst the works are on site.

Over the years, Mark has received numerous awards, including the 2018 Redcoats Farmhouse conservation & restoration award from Hertford association of architects

With a background in structural work, Mark describes his approach as practical whilst providing the aspirational—prioritising realistic, achievable designs over unattainable dreams. However, he acknowledges that modern social media has given clients a much clearer vision of what they want compared to the past.

So if you live in or near Hitchin and are thinking of having some work done - get in touch!
