Witness appeal after suspected arson in Stevenage

A 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy, both from Stevenage, were arrested on suspicion of arson (not endangering life) and have since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

The arrests come after police launched an appeal for witnesses and information following a suspected arson in Stevenage.

At around 320pm on Tuesday (June 27), a toilet roll holder was set on fire inside the Westgate Shopping Centre toilets.

The fire left smoke damage on the toilet door and ceiling.

PC Lukas Haase, who is investigating, said: "Our enquiries are continuing, and we are appealing for any witnesses to please come forward.

"Were you in the men's toilets at this time and saw what happened, or do you have any further information that may assist our investigation?"

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Haase at [email protected]

Call the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 41/51700/23. Always dial 999 in an emergency.

Alternatively, you can stay 100% anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
