Witness appeal after robbery in Stevenage

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a reported robbery in Stevenage.

The incident occurred at around 225pm on Tuesday (February 6), on the ramp that leads up to Stevenage Railway Station from Argyle Way.

It is reported that a man aged in his twenties was approached by two males who were dressed in black hooded tops, grey trousers and black footwear.

The victim then reportedly had an unknown substance thrown in his face which caused no injuries, before he was punched and kicked. His mobile phone was also reported as stolen.

He sustained a fractured eye socket as a result and had made his own way to hospital before police arrived at the scene.

Detective Constable Darren Lomax, from the Stevenage Local Crime Unit, said: "We believe this was a targeted attack and that there is no wider threat to the public. The victim continues to be supported by officers following this distressing incident.

"I understand this news is likely to cause concern among the local community, and our investigation is continuing at pace as we work to try to trace the suspects.

"Detectives have been assessing numerous CCTV opportunities during their investigation, and we are encouraging anyone with information to please get in touch.

"If you were in the area at the time and saw what happened, or have any further information to assist our enquiries, please email me at [email protected]. Thank you."
