Hitchin's very own Danny Pearson will be at Next Page Books for an afternoon in the shop of all things BEANO!

It's becoming a bit of a November tradition. Do come along on Saturday, November 18 from 2pm to meet Danny, hear about how he writes for the Beano, get your Beano books signed and maybe even take part in a bit of role play…

No need to book, but be prepared for it to be busy. The Beano annual and other Beano books will be on sale and Danny will be happy to sign them too.

HSO's concert on November 18 will open with César Cui's Petite Suite No. 3, which is an exciting smorgasbord of fluctuating moods and forms

The Sherwood Forester express steam train is coming to Hitchin

An evocative express steam train is coming to Hitchin this weekend. 

A steam express called the Sherwood Forester is set to make a scheduled stop at Hitchin Railway Station on Saturday.

The historic Stanier Class 5 no. 45231 will call at Hitchin on its way transporting passengers to York Christmas Markets from London Kings Cross.

Hitchin First FRIDAY Transgender support Event

Hitchin First Friday , is a new initiative geared up to supporting the transgender community.

Everyone is welcome, the event is taking place on the first Friday of every month. So far the Snug, the Pitcher and Piano, the Rose and Crown have signed up for the project.

Would you like to come out as your true self but are afraid to? This is what This event is all about. These places are zero tolerance when it comes to any form of trans or homophobia.

Allies are welcome as well, please help make Hitchin a trans friendly town.

Christmas gifts galore and festive fun at North Herts Museum and Hitchin Town Hall

Hitchin Town Hall will showcase nearly 100 independent local businesses this coming weekend - where you'll find a host of handmade and unique gifts.

The museum will also be running craft activities for children and a history trail around the museum, while hand-knitted Christmas decorations will be available in the shop with special discounts (for one day only) on traditional toys which would make perfect Christmas presents. 

Organisers say: "We're getting in the Christmas spirit with Museum Shop Sunday and other festive events in the run up to the big day. 

"Our gorgeous gift shop at North Herts Museum has been preparing for the event of the year – Museum Shop Sunday (November 26) so why not make a visit part of your Christmas shopping experience.

"This international campaign highlights the vital role of retail in helping arts, cultural and heritage venues to survive and thrive."

There will be free entry to the Christmas Creative Market this Saturday, November 25 and Sunday, November 26

Hitchin Tree of the Year competition: Find out how to get involved and vote for your favourite tree in our town

Get involved in Hitchin's Tree of the Year competition. 

Hitchin Nature Network are inviting you to nominate your favourite tree in Hitchin. 

Is it the most majestic, the most colourful, or does it have a special story attached? Is it a small sapling fighting against the odds? Perhaps it is the most photogenic or the biggest? 

o nominate your tree you just need to write a sentence or two describing your tree, take a photograph and send them both to Hitchin Nature Network either on Facebook via the Hitchin Nature Community group, or respond to the Tree of the Year post on the Hitchin Nature Network Facebook page.

The winner will be announced at the end of National Tree Week (Friday, November 25 through until Sunday, December 3).
