Wymondley JMI School, near Hitchin is celebrating its 75thanniversary in 2026

A local village school near Hitchin is gearing up to mark its 75th anniversary this September. Wymondley JMI School on Siccut Rd in Little Wymondley opened its doors to its first pupils in September 1951 and is putting a call out to former pupils and staff to help them gather memories and stories to mark the start of the celebrations in September 2026.

The team at the school, headed up by Head Ally Chadwick are looking forward to hearing from pupils and staff across its 75 years.

"Our school years are some of the best days of our lives, and we know many people will have fond memories of their time at Wymondley JMI over the last 75 years.

As our 75th anniversary approaches we wanted to kick off 2026 by asking former pupils and staff who have attended or taught at the school to share their memories - whether that is through photographs, anecdotes or memorabilia, we would love to see as many as possible. It is fantastic to be able to commemorate this amazing milestone, and we want to celebrate this with our school and wider community."

The school moved from its original home within the village of Little Wymondley to its current location in September 1951 and has grown to its current size of 105 pupils over the last 75 years. Past pupils will see many familiar aspects within the main school building but over the 75 years the school has seen many new additions from its forest school area to its refurbished reception early years play area.

A whole calendar of celebrations will kick off from September. The school parents society the Friends of Wymondley are helping to support the school in celebrating the milestone and Chair of the Friends of Wymondley, Natalie McConnon said:

"As parents at the school and living in the local community we see how vital a thriving school is, and it is our privilege to be helping the school to celebrate this major milestone. We run lots of popular fundraising events throughout the year and as 2026-27 will be such a special school year we have lots of exciting plans to involve the whole school and local community.

We are hoping we will receive lots of amazing pictures and memories and along with the school will be arranging a special event to showcase all of the memories that are received."
