LEAGUE TWO: Scunthorpe 1-1 Stevenage

A spectacular equaliser by Scunthorpe's Harry Bunn denied Stevenage three points in front of 2,439 spectators at Glanford Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

Steve Evans side had taken the lead early in the second half through Jamie Reid and looked to be coasting to a vital victory.

The former Leeds United boss was aiming to build on crucial victories over Rochdale at the Lamex on Good Friday and Colchester away the previous weekend.

With demotion already confirmed for Keith Hill's Iron on Good Friday - thereby ending their 72 year sojourn in league football - hopes were high that Boro could continue to makes strides in their ongoing battle against relegation on Bank Holiday Monday in North Lincolnshire.

Evans made two changes from the vital victory against Rochdale, with Luke Norris and Chris Lines coming for Bruno Andrade and Arthur Read.

The Iron for their part, made four changes from the side that lost to Leyton Orient on Good Friday to seal their fate, with Joe Nuttall, Cameron Wilson, Jack Moore-Billam and Luke Matheson coming in for Rekeil Pyke, Anthony Grant, Hayden Hackney and Tyrese Sinclair.

After both sides took the knee to show solidarity in the fight against discrimination, the lively Elliot List fired low across home keeper Rory Watson's far post following a driving run moments after kick-off, as Evans side looked to continue their recent good form.

In a shapeless opening, both sides battled but without much end product, before Liam Feeney crossed for No9 Joe Nuttall to head over the bar on 22 minutes, after Scunthorpe fashioned a rare half chance against the resolute Stevenage backline.

'We've had a chance,' sang the beleaguered but loyal home support in true gallows fashion.

Feeney teed up Luke Matheson, who clipped Boro keeper Christy Pym's near post on 34 minutes. Moments later, Jake Taylor hooked the ball over the Scunthorpe bar when well placed, after Watson saved from Luke Norris low shot following a Stevenage counter-attack.

Evans side could have gone ahead seven minutes later, when increasingly busy netminder Watson saved Taylor's header, prior to Lines shooting across goal, but the ball was cleared off the line by Matheson, with List hovering.

List then saw his low shot saved low down by Watson after good work down the right flank by Luther James Wildin, as the teams headed into the break goalless.

Second half:

Buoyed by the news that fellow strugglers Oldham were losing at leaders Forest Green, Boro took the lead in the 53rd minute through Reid.

The 27-year-old former Torquay and Mansfield forward, calmly slotted past Scunthorpe keeper Watson to make it 1-0 after dovetailing well with Lines in the build-up, to send the visiting Boro supporters into raptures.

However, just as it seemed Boro would be coasting to a vital victory, Scunthorpe equalised with a cracking strike by substitute Bunn, who swept the ball home after good work by Jordan Hallam to notch his first goal for the Iron, and make it 1-1 with 17 minutes remaining.

Bunn's excellent effort saw a minor-pitch incursion from home fans behind the goal, even if it was prompted by pure joy rather than anything more sinister, after their first strike in more than seven hours.

The result sees Stevenage remain in 22nd place, four points ahead of Oldham, with the Latics having played an extra game.
