Stevenage played out an entertaining 0-0 draw with Port Vale at Vale Park on Tuesday night.

The game lacked any clear-cut chances or moments of real quality despite a lot of 'nearly' moments for each side.

Alex Revell made four changes from the sides 1-1 draw with Walsall at the weekend with Scott Cuthbert, Romeao Hutton, Joe Martin and Danny Newton replacing Luke Prosser, Luther Wildin, Ben Coker and Luke Norris.

Both sides looked dangerous from the off and looked to impose themselves early on.

The first action of the game came in the 16th minute when a Romeao Hutton cross was nearly diverted into his own goal by Nathan Smith but for a smart Scott Brown stop

Set pieces seemed to be Boro's best chance of scoring and in the 21st minute a Joe Martin free kick just sailed wide of the top right corner.

Two minutes later Elliot Osborne was seemingly tripped in the box, but appeals were waved away prior to Devante Rodney receiving the ball up the pitch - but a recovery challenge from returning captain Scott Cuthbert denied the forward from netting his 10th goal of the season.

Osborne and Danny Newton had efforts before half time but both teams went in level at the break with neither side able to majorly trouble the keepers.

The second half started with the same frantic pace as the first with both sides looking to make the breakthrough.

The same pattern of play followed with lots of potential chances but no real efforts to challenge either keeper.

Going into the final 10 minutes, first half substitute Scott Burgess hit a half volley which was destined to swerve into the top corner but just sailed past the left hand post.

In a tightly packed table Boro move up to 20th, a full 10 points of the relegation places, albeit having played three matches more than Grimsby, who sit 23rd.
