Stevenage drew 1-1 with the 10-men of Walsall at the Lamex on Saturday afternoon as they continued their battle to pull away from the League Two relegation places.

Elliot List's excellent 70th minute goal saw Boro pull level in an entertaining game, after Caolan Lavery put the Saddlers ahead with an early strike - prior to the visitors deservedly having Liam Kinsella sent off on 56 minutes.

Alex Revell made three changes from Tuesdays win over Crawley. Jamie Cummings, Elliot Osborne and Jack Aitchinson replacing David Stockdale (who returned to parent club Wycombe), Jack Roles and Matty Stevens.

Walsall made one change from their midweek loss to Cheltenham with Emmanuel Osadebe replacing Josh Gordon who was dropped to the bench.

The first action of the game caused calamity in the Stevenage defence when only 14 seconds into the game from kick off, the ball was played back to Jamie Cummings.

The man on loan from Chelsea went to clear his lines before Lavery closed him down and the ball ricocheted into the top corner.

Stevenage responded brightly and looked certain to equalise in the 13th minute when Luke Prosser's header across the box just evaded the onrushing Elliot List at the back post.

List had another chance seven minutes later but forced a great save from the very impressive Liam Roberts in goal.

Boro continued to press but couldn't find the deserved equaliser.

They went into half time the happier side of the two and once again ruing individual mistakes.

Danny Newton replaced Luke Norris at half time and the substitution meant a more direct approach in the second half.

In the 56th minute Boro gained a foothold in the game when Kinsella dived in two footed on Jack Aitchinson right in front of the team's benches, much to the pleasure of the enraged Boro bench.

In the 70th minute List finally converted a goal that his impressive performance deserved.

A crossfield ball from Joe Martin was brought down by List before the striker guided the ball into the bottom right corner with his weaker left foot.

Boro turned the screw in search of an equaliser but couldn't find a clear opening as Walsall professionally saw out the rest of the game.

The point gives Boro 33 points, a full ten ahead of Barow who occupy 23rd spot in the relegation zone, two in front of rock-bottom Grimsby Town, albeit with the par having three games in hand on Boro.
