Stevenage boss Alex Revell: We're showing signs of being a good side - but we need to take our chances

Stevenage boss Alex Revell focussed on the positives as his side drew 1-1 with Walsall at The Lamex on Saturday.

An Elliot List equaliser in the 70th minute cancelled out Caolan Lavery's Walsall opener after only 14 seconds following a Jamie Cumming blunder.

The result sends Boro 10 points clear of the relegation places, though the chasing pack have three games in hand.

Reflecting on the match, Revell said: "We should've come away with more than we got without a doubt.

"The reason that we haven't is because we gave away a really poor goal.

"You start the game like that then you have to work extremely hard to get back into it."

The Boro boss felt his team dominated throughout the game but lacked that clinical edge to take home the three points.

"There was only one team in the game. We played some really good football.

"I feel like we showed some really good signs of being a good side, but we need to take our chances.

"Things we work on you're seeing time and time again. We're happy with those but ultimately, we're frustrated because we deserved to win the game.

"Although we sit here with a point, we should be sitting here with three."

Goalkeeper Cumming returned to the starting eleven after injury, and calamity ensued only 14 seconds in, when his attempted clearance ricocheted of the oncoming Lavery and into the top corner.

Revell admitted: "You can plan all you like and ultimately if you give away a goal like that then it's an uphill battle after that because teams will sit back and make it hard.

"I'm frustrated because we deserved to win that game and were so close to being a team. It could've been that 3 or 4-0 that we were looking for if things had been right from the start."

List notched his sixth goal of the season and the forward has been a mainstay in the frontline of late.

Stevenage boss Revell was happy with his star man and the team's overall performance:

"It was a fantastic finish. Were really seeing the best of him at the moment with his movement and work ethic. We're delighted with him."

"You can sing about many players but ultimately were getting better as a side and anyone watching that today would've seen that without a doubt.

"Sometimes lady luck isn't on your side and we did everything we could to win the game of football.

"That was the important thing."
