Stevenage boss Alex Revell has hailed his trio of January signings after the 0-0 draw with Tranmere.

The goalless stalemate against Keith Hill's side at the Lamex was enough to keep Boro out of the relegation places.

Revell praised his new arrivals after Chris Lines continued in midfield while there was a first start for Luke Norris up front. The third, Matt Stevens, came off the bench after the interval for his debut.

Revell was delighted with their efforts, saying: "Stevens changed the game. He wanted to run in behind and he was a threat - we's a predatory goalscorer and that's what we want.

"We have to help him with his fitness as he hasn't played for a long time but both he and Luke Norris will cause people problems."

While the point stretched Boro's unbeaten league run to four matches there was a hint of irritation.

With Boro looking to build on their excellent 3-1 win over Scunthorpe in their only other league game of 2021, Tranmere dominated at times and could have departed with all three points if Rovers' Morgan Ferrier's cross-cum shot that struck the woodwork had gone in.

Revell conceded: "There's frustration because we feel we can play better.

"We defended very well. They wanted to go back to front quite early and counter attack us but Scott [Cuthbert] and Terence Vancooten were again very good.

"On the flip side, our quality into the front players wasn't as good as we've seen in recent games.

"We did it occasionally but not enough. There is loads to build on but ultimately it is another point on the board and it keeps the unbeaten run going."
