Stevenage are looking for a new boss after chairman Phil Wallace sacked Alex Revell on Sunday evening.

The move came after Boro lost a crucial relegation six-pointer at the Lamex against fellow strugglers Mansfield Town.

The result was the final straw for Wallace with the team mired in 21st place, despite the best intentions of the dignified Revell who gave his all for the club.

With the FA Cup first round replay against Milton Keynes next up at Broadhall Way on Tuesday evening after a 2-2 draw last week, the club is taking its time in a bid to appoint the right person for the job.

However, with the club facing a battle to retain their league status this season, not to mention a possible televised trip to Yeovil in the second round of the FA Cup - and a reunion with former Boro boss Darren Sarll - on the cards if Boro beat their League One rivals this week, it is imperative Wallace makes the correct decision with his next appointment.

Bookies Boro shortlist

In a fluid market, bookmakers have installed former boss Graham Westley as their favourite to take over at 6-1.

However, the view from a number of fans is that Westley's return for the fifth time would be a retrograde step.

Highly-rated former Arsenal goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman is currently second choice with the bookies at 7-1, with smart money piling in on the current Bromley boss, whose side grabbed a late equaliser at Stockport on Saturday.

Woodman also has previous experience of the club, having played between the sticks during the 2004-05 season for the then named Stevenage Borough.

Former Newport boss and Sunday's initial favourite Michael Flynn has slipped down to fourth place at 8-1.

The experienced Ian Holloway and rising star at Boreham Wood, Luke Garrard are both at 10-1.

Ironically, former Boro boss Sarll is priced at 14-1, the same as Hull City's ex manager Phil Brown, who also led Southend United.

Another previous Stevenage manager, Dino Maamria, who is doing good work as No2 at Burton Albion under Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink is 16-1, along with Arsenal Invincible Sol Campbell, with Paul Ince priced at 20-1.

Neil Warnock is 25-1.
