Stevenage goalkeeper David Stockdale raised some smiles on social media after his heroic penalty save to ensure Boro took home three points against Crawley.

Crawley fluffed their lines in the last minute during the League Two clash on Tuesday when Tom Nichols' penalty was superbly saved by Stockdale after Arthur Read brought down Maguire-Drew.

The save saw an eruption of joy from his Boro teammates who were overjoyed at his heroics.

Their exuberance led to Wycombe's on loan keeper tweeting after the game "why did they push me over like that" in response to a video of his teammates nearly pushing him over after his penalty save.

The former Brighton keeper has impressed since arriving on an emergency loan after Jake Cumming suffered an ankle injury.

His impact and leadership has been pivotal in the uprise in form of the Hertfordshire outfit and many Boro fans have called for his loan to be made into a permanent deal.

His importance to the team since his arrival was personified when he brilliantly saved a 90th minute penalty to his right hand side much to the jubilation of his relieved teammates.

After the game he said "we always look at penalties, we had a chat at the hotel before and he (Nichols) missed one before.

"It's harder for a goalkeeper to stand, it's not easy spending time looking at all those videos for something that might not happen"

The keeper is expected to return to his parent club in the coming weeks. He commented on his time at the club "I believe that where we are in the league is a little bit false.

"I've loved every minute, I'm the sort of character that will fit in and have some fun and they (the team) took to me.

"I can't thank the staff and the squad enough because i had a hard time coming out of Birmingham and went to Wycombe to fall in love with football again.

"Wycombe made me do that but I knew it was time to play and I've got to give credit to Wycombe and to the staff here for letting me do this."
