Stevenage's Lewis Hamilton landed a record seventh World Championship to become the most successful racing driver in history with an outstanding triumph in the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Mercedes driver equalled the number of titles the legendary Michael Schumacher sealed after easing past the German's number of race wins in October.

Triumphing in difficult conditions on a wet and slippery Istanbul Park track in an open race was the 94th of the 35-year-old's career.

As the north Herts driver received the congratulations of his team, an emotional Hamilton said: "To all the kids out there, dream the impossible.

"Seven is just unimaginable but when you work with such a great group of people and you really trust each other, there is just no end to what can do together.

"I feel like I'm only just getting started, it's really weird."

Hamilton has also won plaudits out of the car for his social campaigning on human rights, racism, equal rights, diversity and environmentalism.
