LEAGUE TWO: Stevenage 0-1 Oldham Athletic (Jamie Hopcutt, 16 minutes)

Exactly a year ago this weekend, Alex Revell's Stevenage moved into the top half of the League Two table following a deserved 1-0 victory over Oldham at Boundary Park, as his side extended their unbeaten run to 11 games via Scott Cuthbert's header.

Fast forward twelve troubled months and Revell is now part of new boss Steve Evans backroom staff after being relieved of his managerial duties back in November.

Evans arrived two weeks ago after Boro chairman Phil Wallace's midwinter pick Paul Tisdale failed to improve the side, as the North Herts club slipped inexorably towards the dreaded drop zone.

They are now without a league win in 11 matches having picked up only three points since beating Harrogate Town back in January. In a bid to break that spell, Evans made four changes from his first game in charge, a 2-1 defeat at Exeter last weekend, as Luther James-Wildin, Michael Bostwick, Chris Lines and Arthur Read returned to the starting line-up.

And while Evans side created as many chances against their visitors from the North West as they have for a long time - including 14 shots on target - his new charges simply could not score. Luke Norris should have scored early on before Jake Taylor had a couple of half chances that he failed to convert. While Elliot List and Arthur Read also went close in the first half, before Taylor and Scott Cuthbert nearly scored after the interval.

However, Oldham's Jamie Hopcutt proved to be far more clinical on 16 minutes, when he headed Jordan Clarke's deep ball across Boro keeper Cristy Pym and into the net, to put the visitors 1-0 up.

The well-angled header sent their passionate travelling support into raptures at the other end of Broadhall Way. (You can watch video of Oldham's post-match celebrations here)

Despite bullish Evans insisting afterwards: "John Sheridan's Latics came in balaclavas and stole three points." the result could prove to be damaging - with Stevenage below the safety line, occupying 23rd spot, now three points adrift of the Latics.

With Oldham moving three points clear of Stevenage, Barrow's 2-1 defeat at home to Port Vale gives Boro a mathematical chance of avoiding the drop. Evans analysed the game, telling Nub News: "We had more than a few chances to win the game but unfortunately we just couldn't score.

"We'll pick ourselves up and work hard ahead of the trip to Colchester next week.

"We have seven cup finals left but we have to start winning.

"It's as simple as that."
