EXCLUSIVE: Could Wagamama or KFC be heading to Hitchin town centre
Is the former home of Halifax Bank on Hitchin High Street set to become a Wagamama - or a KFC?
As Hitchin Nub News reported at the time the site at 25 High Street has been empty since the bank closed for good back in January 2023.
However, a planing application has been lodged with North Herts Council to install replacement windows on the first floor and dormer windows at second floor level.
In the week when Nub News exclusively reported that the site of the former M&Co opposite the former Halifax is being earmarked for demolition in favour of 46 apartments, good news could be forthcoming regarding the arrival of a new restaurant in Hitchin town centre.
Nub News understands that a deal has been done on the site, and according to a source, a "well-known' high street food chain, which could either be Wagamama or KFC is in the running."
When Hitchin Nub News ran an opinion piece on our Facebook page a few months ago on whether readers would like a Wagamama to come to our town - nearly 1,000 Hitchin residents responded and/or reacted to our question relating to empty units on Hitchin High Street, with a large majority reacting favourably to the idea of the Asian inspired Japanese food restaurant.
So: Will Hitchin be hosting 'Mind. Body and Bowl' according to Wagamama's own strapline - or will Hitchin High Street soon be home to the Bearded Poultry Icon?
Read Hitchin Nub News for more on this news as we have it.
