Emergency Services Day draws crowds to Hitchin town centre
By James Denselow 17th Mar 2026
successful Emergency Services Day took place in Hitchin over the weekend, bringing together emergency responders, community organisations and local residents in the town centre.
The event, held on Saturday (14 March) in Market Square, saw representatives from several services and charities meeting members of the public and showcasing their work.
Among those attending were officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary, crews from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, volunteers from St John Ambulance, and officers from British Transport Police.
They were joined by representatives from the RNLI, Age UK, care provider Visiting Angels, fitness organisation The Body Coach and Two Brothers Security Solutions.
Members of the local Neighbourhood Policing Team hosted a stand and brought along a police vehicle, giving visitors the opportunity to take a closer look and speak directly with officers about their work in the community.
PCSO Phoebe Taylor said the event was a positive opportunity to connect with residents.
She said: "We would like to take a moment to thank everyone who came down to see and speak to everyone there, and we hope that everyone found the day worthwhile and useful.
"The day was well attended with lots of people from Hitchin and the surrounding areas coming down to spend the day with us, with St John Ambulance's Badger mascot proving particularly popular.
"The weather was fantastic and there was a great atmosphere throughout the town."
Emergency Services Day aimed to give residents the chance to meet the people behind the emergency services, learn more about community safety and discover the work of local organisations supporting the area.
