A family-friendly Hitchin festival proved to be a huge hit this weekend.

The Walsworth Festival made a welcome return to our town after the pandemic forced the event to be shelved for two years.

The long-running jamboree on Walsworth Common dates back to 1974 - and families flocked back to the festival on Sunday to enjoy fun in the sun.

A bumper crowd attended the community festival on Woolgrove Road, which returned after two long years due to the Covid crisis.

The event featured a raft of top quality local food and drink outlets, including succulent fayre from Cafe 77 among others. Vikings were also in attendance and there was a dog agility contest as well as local community groups. There were also events held at nearby Walsworth Community Centre and St Faith's Church.

Speaking to Hitchin Nub News at the Walsworth Festival, organiser Felix Camfield-Walker was delighted with the large numbers that attended the event.

"I'm super chuffed with it. It's been three years of waiting and three months of very hard work - and a day of glorious weather.

"I'm super happy loads of people have come along. We've got classic cars here, we've had Vikings knocking around, we've had really cool stuff to do and eat, and I've had a very good time time - thank you to everyone who came along.

"It's about Walsworth and the greater community of Hitchin, and it's all about bringing in the best that Hitchin can offer - and celebrating that in a big field on a beautiful field.

"Hitchin is a great town and we've had lots of volunteers who've done so much wonderful work for us - we couldn't have done the festival without them. It's been a great show from everyone involved.

"We'll have the ferrets back next year - we've had dog agility this year - dogs and ferrets in the same field probably aren't a good thing..."
