Bim Afolami MP Nominates Grove Road in Hitchin for Noise Camera Trial

Anyone who knows Hitchin will know parts of the town are plagued by lorries thundering past schools and homes to and from the local scrap yard.

As Hitchin Nub News has previously reported, heavy vehicles along Grove Road are a particular concern for residents.

Hitchin's MP has previously visited Grove Road to discuss road safety issues caused by the sheer volume of HGV traffic on this road.

Bim Afolami has nominated Grove Road in Hitchin to be the Hitchin & Harpenden constituency bid for a trial of road noise cameras, which are designed to tackle noise pollution.

Mr Afolami said: "Grove Road was nominated by a majority of local residents to be Hitchin & Harpenden's bid for this new road noise camera trial in my recent survey. I hope that our community will be successful in this bid and that the cameras will make a difference to local residents if we are.

"Whether or not we are successful in this particular application, residents can be assured that I will do everything in my power to support them to tackle local road noise pollution and I will take up the issues that they have raised with me with the relevant local authorities."

The trial, which was recently announced by Government, will see this new technology rolled out at sites across the country with the hope that it will make a material difference to reducing excessive road noise.

As the local Member of Parliament, Mr Afolami was allowed to submit one road from Hitchin, Harpenden or the villages to be Hitchin & Harpenden's bid for this scheme.

Following an online survey of constituents conducted by Mr Afolami, Grove Road was chosen to be this constituency's bid for this scheme.
