Hitchin MP Bim Afolami pays tribute to the late monarch, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II: May she rest in peace
Hitchin MP Bim Afolami has paid his respects to the late monarch.
The Queen's coffin left Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire on Sunday morning and is making a six-hour journey to Edinburgh.
The cortege began the 175-mile journey at 10:00 and will make its way through Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen, Angus and Tayside before reaching Edinburgh.
The Queen will then lie at rest in The Palace of Holyroodhouse overnight.
Reacting to the sad death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, on Thursday, Mr Afolami said: "Earlier this year, people in Hitchin and Harpenden and across the country came together to celebrate Her Majesty's lifetime of public service at the Platinum Jubilee.
"She has served our country faithfully and to the fullest of her ability for seventy years, steering us through good times and bad, and she leaves behind an enduring legacy – both in the United Kingdom, across the Commonwealth and indeed, across the world.
"I know that everyone in Hitchin & Harpenden will join me in sending their best wishes to her whole family at this incredibly sad time.
"May she rest in peace."
