Her Majesty, The Queen: A book of condolence has been opened at Hitchin Library for mourners.

From today, Monday (September 12), books of condolence will be at all 46 of Hertfordshire's branch libraries during their normal opening hours - including our town's building at Paynes Park.

There is also an online book of remembrance for people across Hertfordshire.

Councillors and officers of Hertfordshire County Council have been deeply saddened at the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Cllr Annie Brewster JP, Chairman of Hertfordshire County Council said:
"On behalf of Hertfordshire County Council and the people of Hertfordshire, I would like to express our deepest condolence and gratitude for the lifetime of service and devotion given by Her Majesty The Queen."

The completed books will be stored in the Hertfordshire Archives.

As a mark of respect flags have been lowered to half-mast at all county council buildings.

There is also provision for people to lay flowers in Hitchin Market Place.
