Hitchin: Number of flowers laid in Market Place in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II grows by the hour
The number of flowers that have been laid in Hitchin town centre in honour of the late monarch is growing by the hour.
Following the death of Her Majesty on Thursday, many in our town have visited Market Place to lay flowers and bouquets in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.
As you can see by our pictures, the volume of floral tributes has increased in market square over the last 24 hours.
As the mood in our town changes from one of shock and grief, as well as sense of solemnity, silence, sadness and stillness to a softer feeling of gratitude and thanks, in recognition of the 70 years of service the late Queen gave to the country, the tone is reflected in the personal messages attached to bouquets.
Amid colourful roses, carnations, chrysanthemums, sunflowers, and iris, alongside a wreath and candles, a moving handwritten note read, 'God bless our beautiful Queen.'
