Hitchin: Queen's Platinum Jubilee event round-up - with 18 road closures in place across our town

There will be 18 road closures in Hitchin over the four-day bank holiday weekend celebration for The Queen.

The Platinum Jubilee runs from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5 and Hitchin Nub News understands that 18 road closures were applied for and granted for Hitchin.

Hitchin Nub News also understands that there will be a total of 561 road closures across Hertfordshire.

This includes main thoroughfares in our town centre, including Bancroft and Nightingale Road.

Queen Elizabeth II will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years on the throne this week - with towns and villages all over the land marking the occasion with street parties and parades.

There will also be a large number of events taking place in and around Hitchin, such as the lighting of Platinum Jubilee beacons to mark the event, including at Market Place.

Why not join in with the celebrations in Hitchin Market Place and sing along with Hitchin Town Band, before a beacon to mark the occasion is lit at 945pm on Thursday.

Market Place is flying a large Union Jacks above Waterstones bookstore, while the Rose and Crown pub is sporting a large flag too.

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee is fast approaching and Hitchin will be marking the weekend in all number of ways. 

Perhaps you'll be watching Trooping the Colour on the big screen in Market Place?

Or did you know that there are plans to host a 'Big Lunch' on the streets of Hitchin town centre on Sunday, June 5?

Bucklersbury, Sun Street and Hitchin High Street will be closed to traffic, with restaurants and cafes encouraged to line the streets with tables and chairs to serve food and drink throughout the day.
