One of Hitchin MP Bim Afolami's favourite quotes is from an unlikely source.

The Eton-educated MP often quotes Vladimir Ilyich Lenin's maxim that 'There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen.'

The last few weeks have perhaps offered evidence of that truism, or at the very least, given future historians plenty of material when it comes to analysing 21st century politics.

Right here, right now, the UK is at a political crossroads.

A crucial juncture vitally important to the course our country will take politically and economically from now on. For the current Prime Minister, Boris Johnson is facing a confidence vote in his future after the Partygate affair.

The decision Tory MPs take today will resonate for the next decade. Yet, our town's Parliamentarian, has refused to comment.

Despite repeated requests from Hitchin Nub News, Mr Bim Afolami has refused to reveal which way he will be voting in tonight's confidence vote (Monday, June 6).

The lack of leadership and transparency is as frustrating as it is worrying for democracy - and for our town.

Labour's Hitchin and Harpenden candidate in the 2019 election, Kay Tart added her voice to the ever-growing number of constituents angry at the lack of response from Mr Afolami.

"Right, Mr Afolami, now is the time to show what you're made of.

"Boris Johnson is at best a liability for the Tory party, and at worst, well, we've all seen for ourselves.

"If you have a shred of integrity get rid of him."
