Local Campaign Brings Mental Health Conversations to Hitchin Pubs — Seeking Business Partners**
By Katie Wilson 5th Oct 2026
A new community concept is looking to get off the ground in Hitchin, using beer mats in local pubs to start important conversations around men's mental health. The idea behind the campaign is simple: place eye-catching mats directly on venue tables where mates gather, offering a clear, approachable prompt—*"Reaching out isn't a weakness. Check in on your mates."*
One side of each mat features a QR code taking readers straight to a dedicated football blog. Alongside features on the history of mental health in the game, the site provides accessible links and support resources for anyone needing help.
To turn this idea into a reality and fund the initial physical print runs, local businesses are invited to partner on the project. In return, the reverse side of every beer mat in a sponsored batch will carry the business's logo alongside a custom QR code directing pubgoers directly to their website, booking page, or social media. It offers local independent shops, trades, and venues a high-impact, community-focused way to champion local wellbeing while reaching potential customers right in the heart of Hitchin.
Sponsoring a print run requires only a modest contribution (~£30 for 100 pulpboard mats). If you are a local business owner who would like to sponsor a batch—or a venue owner willing to place a stack on your bar—please get in touch with Katie, Creator of *Two Minutes Past Eight*, at [email protected]
