Up to £30k of home energy improvements available to qualifying households in Hitchin

North Herts District Council are on a mission to improve the energy efficiency of housing in the district through the government's Warm Homes: Local Grant scheme which they are delivering in partnership with the National Energy Foundation.
If you're eligible, you could get better insulation, energy-efficient heating and/or low carbon heating worth up to £30,000, that will reduce your energy bills, make your home warmer and tackle damp and mould.
Measures that could be installed include wall, loft and underfloor insulation, heating controls, draught-proofing, double or triple glazing, solar photovoltaic panels and heat pumps.
Households with an energy inefficient home - Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Band D or below - and living in certain postcodes across North Herts will be automatically eligible for the local grant scheme.
Grants can also be accessed by households with an annual income of less than £36,000 and by those where someone in the household is getting certain benefits.
The scheme is only available to privately owned homes, either owner occupied or privately rented. If you do not know your home's EPC, you can find out what it is when you apply.
You can quickly and easily find out if you're eligible by using the Government's eligibility checker or by calling the National Energy Foundation's Better Housing Better Health helpline on 0800 107 0044 (free to call, weekdays 9am-5pm).
Cllr Amy Allen, Executive Member for Environment, said: "This is a fantastic scheme and it's really simple to check if you are eligible. Not only could this save you money – with free improvements and cheaper bills in the future – but you'll also be improving the environment by cutting your carbon emissions, and being part of North Herts reaching the important goal of being net zero by 2040."
Alison Vickers, Operations Director at NEF said: "We're really excited to be working with North Herts Council and residents on this scheme. By improving your home's energy efficiency, not only will you save money on your energy bills but you will also feel more comfortable in your home. Please call us to check your eligibility today."
