Hitchin Boys' School 11-0 Torquay Boys' Grammar School

It's not everyday you get to lift a prestigious trophy at the home of English rugby cheered on by more than 750 supporters - but that's exactly what happened to Hitchin Boys' School forward Reece Cairns on Wednesday.

The talented No8 emerged victorious with coveted silverware at Twickenham after HBS emerged triumphant in the RFU's national U15s schools cup final at rugby HQ.

They beat Torquay Grammar 11-0 in the final of the U15 Vase, the culmination of the national Schools Cup rugby tournament, via six points from the boot of Elliot Oughton and a dramatic try from Leo Rainbow, with only five minutes remaining.

Backed by their vociferous supporters who flooded into Twickenham after 14 coaches left Hitchin earlier in the morning, to ferry excited pupils, staff and parents to the game of their lives. In a tough match with no quarter asked, nor given, the HBS side, led by coach Chris Bajak edged past their opponents from the south west. Speaking to Hitchin Nub News in the Twickenham mixed zone moments after the victory, in a space normally reserved for Eddie Jones' England, overjoyed Reece shared his delight. "It's definitely the best day of my life," the talented teen said, adding: "It's insane. It's so surreal. To be here at Twickenham after all the hare work our coaches and team have put in this season. I can't quite believe it. "I only started playing rugby three seasons ago and now I'm at Twickenham. What an experience. "As soon as we got on the pitch we just thought 'right, lets' have it'. but keep composed, just continue to do the stuff we've worked through in training, keep calm and keep cool." Luckily modest Reece and his heroic team did just that to ease past Torquay to win the hotly contested silverware. The HBS forward and his excellent team also savoured changing in the Twickenham dressing room that the England national team use for Six Nations and Autumn internationals. A smiling Reece added: "It was amazing to sit in the same changing room as the England team." Humble Rhys also took time to pay tribute to the 14 coach loads of loyal travelling support at Twickenham that mostly departed from St Mary's car park earlier this morning. "The support was amazing," he said, "we could really feel it, they kept pushing us on and giving us the edge. "It's been a long journey, full of hard work, week in week out, so it's nice to have something to show for it. "It's definitely the best day of my life." Modest HBS coach Mr Bajak added: "The boys have worked so hard, I'm so proud of them."
