Steve Evans side win through to the second round of the FA Cup after beating Gateshead 3-2 at the weekend.

Luke Norris grabbed a winner 18 minutes from time as Evans' Boro eclipsed the North Easterners on Saturday.

Stevenage were good value for their two-goal interval lead after Jordan Roberts 21st minute shot found the the net off the far post, prior to Gateshead's Kenton Richardson heading Dean Campbell's cross into his own net.

However, the valiant non-leaguers rallied after the interval and pulled a goal back on 53 minutes when Will Harris notched his first goal for the club as a deflected 20-yard drive beat Boro 'keeper Aaron Chapman.

Chapman was beaten again nine minutes later when Middlesbrough loanee Kamil Conteh's well-struck long-range drive took a slight deflection on its way into the net.

Just when an upset appeared on the cards, Evans Boro proved they are made of sterner stuff these days when a mix-up in the Heed's inexperienced back line gifted Boro sub Norris a 72nd minute winner.

There was still time for Roberts to see red on 82 minutes for kicking out at Heed defender Jevon Mills, but the only thing that really mattered was Stevenage's name making it through to the second round draw.
