Stevenage completed an underwhelming first week under Paul Tisdale with a 1-1 draw against League Two bottom side Scunthorpe, writes Freddie Cardy.

Luke Norris' sixth minute strike, his fifth of the season, provided the perfect start for Tisdale's Boro in the new manager's first League game since taking over from Alex Revell.

After a disappointing FA Cup defeat in Somerset to National League Yeovil, an early goal was the perfect response for Stevenage, with Tisdale making four changes from the cup defeat.

With bottom of the table Scunthorpe visiting the Lamex, Tisdale was aware of the expectations on him, up against another manager who has only recently taken over in Keith Hill.

And it was Hill's side who responded just 13 minutes later, with Myles Hippolyte firing home after a series of chances for the visitors.

It was clearly set up for an entertaining game at the wrong end of League Two, a welcome contrast to Boro's successive cup defeats in recent games.

Norris fired wide minutes later and top scorer Elliot List was brought into the game more too, with Stevenage managing the game well and quieting the vocal away supporters by doing so.

The relationship between Boro fans and Paul Tisdale didn't get off to the best of starts over the last week, and the East Terrace drumming certainly wasn't as raucous as usual.

Tisdale knows he has to deliver quickly to steer Stevenage away from relegation trouble, and went into the half-time break knowing that his side were on top but just hadn't been sharp enough in the final third.

Neither side seemed to want to get the ball down and play in the second half, but Jamie Reid came close to scoring a well worked effort on the edge of the penalty area.

Scunthorpe responded well though and showed more promise in attack but both sides seemed to have worked each other out by the hour mark, both desperate to avoid defeat.

Chances, and half-chances, were squandered at both ends and Stevenage had a considerable shout for a penalty with just five minutes left on the clock when Elliot List was brought down after a swift attacking move. In the end, the points were shared at the Lamex, with Stevenage remaining just above the relegation zone at the start of the Tisdale era.
