A brace from Charlie Carter and a late Aramide Oteh strike earned Stevenage a crucial victory after they came from behind to beat Scunthorpe 3-1 in a hard-fought game after Dev Green opened the scoring for the visitors.

The win came hot on the heels of the 1-0 triumph over Cambridge 72 hours previously, in which Carter also grabbed the winner, to make it two wins out of two for Alex Revell's Boro - and seven from nine during the festive season, following the 1-1 draw at Cheltenham on Boxing Day.

The win moves Stevenage out of the League Two relegation places following Grimsby's home defeat at the hands of Cambridge to cap a good afternoon for the north Herts side.

Stevenage showed their character after falling behind in the fifth minute to a strike from former Southport attacker Dev Green.

The 24-year-old squeezed home in a crowded box with Jamie Cummings failing to prevent the ball from crossing the line.

However Boro refused to be downhearted and pulled level in the 11th minute through Carter's first of the afternoon.

Carter, a former Fulham academy youth, angled a perfectly timed header past Mark Howard in the Scunthorpe goal to make it 1-1.

Buoyed by the goal Carter and his colleagues pushed on for a second, which duly came ten minutes later.

Carter is fast earning a reputation for notching important goals, following his winner against Cambridge at the Lamex three days previously.

Against Scunthorpe on Saturday afternoon he slotted home arguably Stevenage's goal of the season so far after his sublime effort flew past Howard to make it 2-1.

Carter along with many of his teammates impressed throughout, with the only concern of the day coming when the 24-year-old limped off with what looked like a groin injury

Both sides showed excellent endeavour throughout a tough battle before QPR loanee Oteh slotted home with moments remaining to make it 3-1.
