Stevenage boss Alex Revell hails Luke Norris ahead of Tranmere clash

With Stevenage set to make the long trip to Tranmere on Tuesday Boro boss Alex Revell is hoping new signing Luke Norris can continue to help boost his side's battle against the drop.

Norris grabbed a late equaliser at the weekend against Morecambe and Revell would like more of the same at Prenton Park this week.

The welcome strike was Norris' first goal in Boro colours and while, Revell was happy with his overall performance, believes there is scope for improvement.

"He's been knocking on the door for however long now," Revell told Nub News, adding: "He's deserved that goal because he's been fantastic in his general play and he just needed that goal and now he's got that hopefully he can go from strength to strength.

"We've got real belief in him and he needs to improve but we believe that we're going to have a really top player once we put our principles into him."

New signing Jack Roles was not involved in Saturday's game but the Boro boss commented "I think the big for those boys coming in on loan is that they've got to work to get in because we believe in what we're doing.

"They've come from the (under) 23's and they've got to understand what we're doing and it doesn't just happen, it takes time.

"If the team performs like that then those players stay in the team."

Reflecting on the hard-earned point against Morecambe, Revell added that while he was disappointed to not get the three points, he saw the positives in the performance, "I think that we deserved more, I don't think we can do anymore to win a game of football.

"I'm delighted that we managed to get the goal at the end and the point but I feel like we deserved more. It was pleasing to bounce back after the defeat"

The Hertfordshire outfit had a slow start to the game, but came out a different team in the second half. "I think that people need to realise that we can't start games the way we did if we want to win games," explained Revell.

"We have to make sure it's a 90-minute performance and second half we've shown that we can cause teams real problems. But obviously we can't start games like that first half if we want to win games

"We've got to learn from that, two really poor goals but we've to take real belief and confidence from that performance in the second half."

Midfielder Chris Lines was introduced back into the team after two weeks out while self-isolating - and Revell was delighted with his performance.

"He's different class, he's someone who has class in the way that he plays and someone you can trust with the ball.

"He's got to get fitter obviously and he's had a tough time with Covid and getting fit and coming from Northampton.

"He showed today what a top player he is and we're delighted to have him back."
