A late goal by Jamie Reid was enough for Boro to beat the Posh in a dramatic finish at Broadhall Way on Tuesday evening.
Reid's winner in the third minute of stoppage time, made it goals in six goals in seven games scored by Boro's hard-working team after the 84th minute - to help Evans side make their best start to a season since 2013.
Speaking to Nub News after the match, the charismatic Evans said: "I've taken a team to Manchester United {Crawley]
"I'd like Manchester United - and I think we'd beat them.
"The first time I went to United we lost 1-0 and Sir Alex [Ferguson] had me in his office afterwards and told me: 'The best team went out.'
"How good would it be to get any of the big boys: Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea - they're all there aren't they. But if we get the 'Old Red Lion' instead we'll aim to beat them and go again."
Look forward to the next round, Evans added: "It would be great for the town to create a special evening. To put a smile on the face of supporters - the people who've been here during five relegation battles.
"The whole country needs a lift at the moment - not just Stevenage - and a lot of times that comes from football."
When asked what Reid's late goal revealed about his side's mentality and character, Evans replied in a message that should send shivers down the rest of League Two and whoever Boro's opponents will be in the third round: "We're an incredibly fit group.
"We worked hard in pre-season. We did it with an emphasis on intensity, with the intention of going until the end in games. You can see it in training every day - I've often had Revs [Alex Revell] asking me to cut training games early [because of the intensity] and I've said: 'No'.
"We have a real conscious bias towards intensity - and you can see that in every game. If we had lost 1-0 it would still have been a super performance. But we go until the end and keep fighting in every game - and you can see that [against Peterborough]."
Evans side who sit second in League Two travel to Salford on Saturday in a bid to continue their unbeaten start to the season, with memories still fresh of Boro's entertaining 4-2 victory over the Reds on the final game of last season.
