Stevenage winger Jordan Roberts was delighted with his team's reaction to the disappointing loss to Northampton as they overcame Doncaster Rovers 1-0 at the Eco-Power Stadium on Tuesday night.

The forward was back in the squad after a one match ban for accumulating five yellow cards, and was back on the score sheet with a calmly placed header in the 25th minute to take the three points back to Hertfordshire.

After the game he spoke to Nub News and spoke about the tough night the team endured as they battled for the win: "Tough game," the Stevenage attacker said, adding: "I think it was important for the lads, the reaction to bounce back.

"If you want to be anywhere near the top of the table at the end of the season, they're the results that matter.

"The character the lads have shown today is something probably which we might not have shown earlier on in the season. A hard-fought win."

Doncaster had new manager Danny Schofield in the home dugout for the first time and on the basis of play, probably deserved something out of the game as they squandered numerous chances to equalise.

Roberts was under no illusions that it was a tough night, and said: "They were going to come out with the fresh style of football which the new manager wants but we focused on what we needed to do.

"The lads did their jobs down to a tee, even the substitutes that came onto the pitch were fantastic, as a collective, everyone that comes on did their part, and were going to need that till the end till the end of the season."

Manager Steve Evans was full of praise for the versatile forwards, who scored his fifth goal of the season, and put in another battling performance for 90 minutes.

In regards to his individual performance on the night, he said: "It's always nice to contribute to the team, but for myself I take each game as it comes.

"Now we move onto Colchester and I'll give my all for the team and three points on Saturday would be a good end to a good strong month."

The former Ipswich and Gillingham man also took time out to praise the strong away following of 170 Boro fans who made the long trip up North:"These are the games on Tuesday nights, weather starts to turn, the fans did well to turn up tonight in numbers which we're always grateful for, sometimes they're the extra man.

"Today we've come out here, got the three points and they can go home with a smile on their face.

"The performances we put in aren't always going to be pretty, I think the fans know that, I think you can look at the games we've played and there's not one player that doesn't leave everything out on the pitch."
