New parliamentary constituency of Hitchin could turn from Conservative to Labour new data reveals - find out more in our Special Nub News Report
The proposed new parliamentary seat of Hitchin could turn from blue to red at the next election, new data has revealed.
Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Party is on course to land more seats than Sir Tony Blair's Labour Party during their seminal landslide victory of 1997, new polling has suggested.
Information taken from pollsters Best for Britain
According to the first large-scale constituency polling conducted under proposed new boundaries that will be confirmed later this summer, the new Hitchin seat could turn from Conservative to Labour at the next election. .
The poll recorded Labour's national support at 35 per cent, 12 points ahead of the Tories, lagging behind on 23 per cent. This would translate into 470 seats for Starmer's party at the next election. With Rishi Sunak's party forecast to only win 129, that would leave a whopping 290 seat majority.
This would see current Hitchin and Harpenden MP Bim Afolami forecast to lose his seat to Labour in the new Hitchin constituency.

Caution: Undecided voters
However, the poll by Best For Britain cautions Labour not to be too overconfident with a large number of voters still undecided - which points to how well Mr Afolami and the Labour candidate fare on local issues during the hustings.
Nor does the polling indicate, if there will be a pact between the Lib Dems and Labour for the Lib Dems to stand aside in certain seats up and down the country - if, as expected Sir Ed Davey's party will now be focusing more of their efforts on eminently winnable seats, including the new constituency of Harpenden and Berkhamstead, an electoral battleground rising Lib Dem star Sam Collins could well be fighting.
