St Patrick's Day: Hitchin's Willy Wonka of Ice Cream concocts Guinness flavoured gelato and Shamrock Scotch Eggs

With St Patrick's Day looming later this week Hitchin's WIlly Wonka of Ice Cream has surpassed himself this year.

The forthcoming day of celebration is a popular one for those around the world with Irish heritage - and also for many millions who simply love fun. Which prompted Fabio Vincenti, owner of the Fabio's Gelato who has a store in Hitchin Market Place as well as Letchworth town centre, to see if he could mark the occasion with an Irish related ice cream.

Fabio, who quit his telesales job to follow his dream and become the owner of an ice cream parlour has been working hard thinking of new ways to create special flavours based around special events.

The gelato alchemist has surpassed himself ahead of St Patrick's Day with his new concoctions.

Speaking to Nub News, ice cream expert - who has created numerous best-selling strange and surreal tastes, including concocting a chocolate and crisp flavour said: "We've made Guinness ice cream in the past, but with Covid and moving shops it got put on the back burner.

"With our pair of shops in Hitchin and Letchworth being fully licensed, it's back this year in both of them on St Patricks Day with a twist - I've added burnt caramel to the Guinness then ripped through Stracciatella* chocolate, a really good, indulgent adult flavour."

Hitchin's Willy Wonka of Ice Cream continued: "We've already launched the Guinness gelato and this week we are launching our shamrock Gelato Scotch Eggs - consisting of green chocolate centres, covered in mint choc chip, dipped in more green chocolate and rolled in Oreo crumble.

"For the Guinness gelato we used their new Nitrosurge device - which they launched last week to pour a decent pint."

With such consistently weird and wonderful concoctions that Fabio creates, no wonder Irish eyes will be smiling this St Patrick's Day here in North Herts.

*Stracciatella is a variety of gelato, consisting of milk-based ice cream filled with fine, irregular shavings of chocolate.
