FT: Stevenage 1-0 Crewe Alexandra: Jamie Reid (80): Attendance 2,670 including 132 away supporters

An excellent late goal from Jamie Reid secured Steve Evans Stevenage a vital victory with time running out.

Reid- who grabbed a memorable double during Boro's 2-1 victory at Gresty Road last September - sealed three valuable points with only ten minutes remaining, to send the majority of the crowd numbering 2,670 into raptures.

Boro came into the game on the back of an excellent result and performance during the 3-1 victory over Walsall on Saturday to show their quality after a poor run of form.

After an attritional opening 45 minutes with plenty of endeavour, if not end product, the game sparked into a semblance of a contest around the hour mark.

First, Luke Norris, feeding off a clever long ball with a low trajectory from Boro keeper Jon McCracken, beat Alex No15 Connor O'Riordan before unleashing a tremendous drive that James Beadle in the visitors gaol did well to keep out.

Moments later, substitute Jake Forster-Caskey fired a powerful shot at Beadle, who acrobatically tipped the ball over the bar.

As the clock ticked down, Reid made his mark by firing past Beadle with only 10 minutes left to clinch an important triumph for Evans battling side.

The result sends Stevenage into second place on 66 points, in an increasingly tight League Two table.

Boro travel to third place Carlisle United on Saturday, with Northampton Town in fourth spot hosting Tuesday's visitors to the Lamex, Crewe.
