FT: Stevenage 1-0 Doncaster Rovers: Jordan Roberts strike edges Steve Evans Boro three points nearer to League One

Jordan Roberts 13th minute strike edged Stevenage nearer to automatic promotion, after Steve Evans side eased past Doncaster Rovers 1-0.

In front of 2,990 fans at Broadhall Way on Tuesday evening, former Ipswich Town attacker Roberts fired past Rovers keeper Jonathan Mitchell to put the home side ahead.

Although the scoreline may have been tight, Boro looked solid throughout the match against a limited Doncaster side they also beat 1-0 through a Roberts' goal in the away fixture earlier in the season at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The lead was nearly doubled when Charlton Athletic loanee Alex Gilbey's audacious effort struck the woodwork late on.

However, with fourth and fifth place Stockport and Carlisle drawing 2-2, Boro are now four points clear of County with only four matches to go.

With long-term leaders Leyton Orient finally gaining promotion to the third tier, on this display it may not be too much longer until Evans side join them.
