Stevenage travel to Reading this Saturday afternoon (August 19) in a bid to continue their excellent form this term so far.

Steve Evans' Boro have posted three victories on the bounce since returning to League One, with two superb away wins on the road at Northampton and Cambridge, sandwiched between a comfortable victory over Shrewsbury.

If you thrown in a stirring triumph on penalties against Championship side Watford, it's fair to say the season so far has certainly exceeded the expectations of most fans.

Here's Boro fan and writer Owen Rodbard on Three Things We've Learned so far this campaign.

1 - That momentum from last season is not slowing down

This team really is special. Despite losing the majority of the dressing room from last season, the new player have seamlessly bonded into this clubs ethos, and into Evans' methods. The belief they showed to immediately fight back on Tuesday night is testament to the harmony around the club at. the moment. We knew after last season that something special was being built, but this has really defied expectations. Who knows where this group could go.

2 - Squad depth is needed

Admittedly we do have 3-4 players injured that could fill the bench, but that could be the case with most of the season, and we do not want a repeat of the goalkeeping crisis which nearly derailed our season. I still think we need another forward (despite the imminent return of Harry Anderson) and another centre back just for good measure.

3 - Solid defence

At times, this defence looks impenetrable. New signings Nathan Thompson and Finley Burns have gelled with their defensive counterparts and have a real understanding of their duties in a so far formidable backline. High praise goes to the latter who is experiencing his first taste of consistent senior football, and has looked a cut above the rest.
